Story County GOP Applauds Historic Conservative Wins in Iowa Legislature as Session Nears Close

AMES, Iowa – The Story County Republican Party today praised Iowa’s Republican-led 91st General Assembly for delivering major victories on property tax relief, health freedom, education reform, and fiscal responsibility as lawmakers work toward final adjournment.

“Iowa Republicans are keeping their promises to Iowa families,” said Jeff Ortiz, Co-Chair of the Republican Party of Story County. “From reining in property taxes to passing bold ‘Make America Healthy Again’ reforms, our legislators under Governor Kim Reynolds’ leadership are putting common-sense conservative values into action. Story County families are better off because of these efforts.”

Key Conservative Achievements Highlighted:

Property Tax Relief Moves Forward House and Senate Republicans advanced significant property tax reform legislation that includes a proposed 2% annual cap on growth for cities and counties, expanded homestead exemptions, and other protections for hardworking Iowa taxpayers. This remains a top priority for House and Senate GOP leaders, with negotiations continuing toward a final agreement.

  • Strengthens nutrition training for future doctors

Vape and Nicotine Tax for Pediatric Cancer Research Senate File 2480, which imposes a reasonable tax on vaping products and alternative nicotine items while directing revenue to pediatric cancer research at the University of Iowa and Medicaid, passed the Senate unanimously and continues advancing.

“These bills represent real progress for Iowa values,” added Ortiz.  “Whether it’s protecting taxpayers, promoting healthier lifestyles for our children, or expanding educational freedom, Republicans are fighting for the families, farmers, and students of Story County.”

The Story County GOP encourages all residents to contact their legislators to thank them for their strong conservative leadership and to stay engaged as the session concludes.
